Products & Services
Oreck Corporation's history is akin to the American dream. David
Oreck, at age 40, founded Oreck Corporation in 1963 at Rockefeller
Center in New York City, with one product: an 8 lb. upright vacuum
cleaner. In 1975, the company moved its headquarters to New Orleans,
Louisiana. Oreck began manufacturing vacuums in the United States in
1979 and continues to do so today in Cookeville, Tennessee.
When larger competitors dismissed the incredibly lightweight Oreck vacuum as "too light" or "a toy," David Oreck dispelled that notion by aggressively selling to hotels. The vacuum quickly became a favorite of housekeepers nationwide because it was so lightweight, powerful and easy to use. By proving the vacuum successfully cleaned hotel rooms, Oreck then marketed the incredibly lightweight vacuum to consumers as a "hotel vacuum for the home."
David Oreck used this message as he revolutionized direct marketing, by offering his incredibly lightweight Oreck directly to consumers through a series of mail offers and memorable radio commercials. Oreck quickly expanded beyond upright vacuum cleaners, becoming one of the leaders in home cleaning solutions by adding canisters and handheld vacuums as well as air purifiers, multi-purpose floor cleaning machines, a full line of cleaning products and a wide range of small appliances.
David Oreck’s son, Tom has been involved with the company since 1999 serving in the roles of President, CEO, and a member of the Board of Directors as well as Chairman of the Board. Oreck continues to enjoy tremendous growth across all lines of business. Oreck sells its products worldwide, including in England, Northern Europe, Russia, Canada, Mexico, Central America, Oceania, the Far East and the Middle East.
