Overview
We identify, train and provide ongoing business support to entrepreneurs who will be running their own OneRoof stores. A
typical owner of a OneRoof franchise builds his or her business around
our central service—information and communications—and over time adds
some or all of the other eight services depending on local demand and
linkages formed by OneRoof with partners.
Once
we demonstrate the success of the individual store business model and
the viability of our delivery platform, we intend to expand to other
states and countries, including India and Mexico.
Products & Services
OneRoof is a for-profit social enterprise, a new kind of business
operating in the developing world that is driven by dual social and
financial missions:
OneRoof's intellectual property is not a new service or product. Our IP is a new way of doing business and a new way of doing international development work. The successes of our initial locations in India and Mexico are allowing our model to go to scale in both countries and beyond — giving OneRoof and its partners the opportunity not only to help bring millions of people out of poverty, but also to change the way that the world thinks about and goes about the work of poverty elimination.
OneRoof’s customers are citizens of under-served, rural areas of the developing world. We intend to give these customers access and opportunity: access to high-quality, low-cost goods, services and information, and the opportunity to learn, earn and improve the lives of their families and communities. We believe that a small business can be a powerful catalyst for transforming lives if that business is profitable, sustainable, and socially relevant. OneRoof is a new kind of business, with a different kind of mission. We measure our success by a double bottom line: to do well and to do good.
OneRoof builds upon the experience of its predecessor organization, World Corps, a U.S. nonprofit founded in 1998. World Corps worked in rural communities of India, Mexico, Kenya, and the Philippines carrying out youth entrepreneurship training and developing Internet telecenters. Six former staff members of World Corps founded Oneroof, bringing considerable expertise in the field of international development. Since our launch in October 2005, we have added people with proven business experience, in each of the countries where we operate, to create a management team that knows the social side and the business side of the for-profit social enterprise we are building.
- To change the way that essential services are delivered to the world's rural poor; and
- To ensure that our franchisees, subsidiaries, and headquarters make a profit in the process.

Training & Support
A selected franchisee will be given training in computers and internet,
special software that is used to operate the franchised centre on a day
to day basis and comprehensive entrepreneurial skills and business
development training. All training will be conducted at OneRoof’s
training facilities in Chennai. The training will be for the
Franchisee, the Centre-In-Charge (a person who would be hired to manage
the centre on a day to day basis) and an Operator who would assist the
Franchisee and/or Centre-In-Charge in the daily activities of the
centre. The duration of training will be for 5 to 15 days and will vary
for the franchisee, the Centre-In-Charge and the Operator. Franchisees
will also spend a few days in the existing OneRoof Centres and undergo
hands-on training in the operations of the OneRoof Centre.
